Aloha! My name is Carla R. Villamor and I have been a licensed massage therapist here in Hawai`i for 11 years. I graduated in 2006 from Ashmead College in Vancouver, Washington. I returned home to O`ahu in December 2006 to have my son born here and to live among ohana.
I originally had set out to become a dentist in pursuit to help other people because of a life changing experience with my mother. En route to dental school in Washington, my path was altered by a teenage driver rear ending my friend and I. We both needed physical therapy, chiropractic care, and massage therapy. At the time, dental spas were becoming a trend and I was toying with the idea of becoming a massage therapist as a part time job while I would be attending dental school, and so I enrolled. Mid way through massage school I became pregnant with my son, and I realized my career in dentistry wasn't going to happen. My pregnancy was a major benefit because I became "homework" for prenatal massage at least twice a week.
I was raised in an athletic family, but also a family with a history of diabetes. These two reasons are the source of my "fire" for my massage practice. I have coached and am currently still coaching prep volleyball. I have coached for high school seasons, as well as, club volleyball. I use my practice daily outside of the massage room because of the kinesiology and physiology of my student athletes, friends, and family. I have witnessed the effects diabetes can have on a person's body, and through my practice I want to further educate and prevent the negative effects of the disease such as poor circulation and amputation.
My practice is focused around sports massage and supplemental treatment for diabetes. These reasons allow me to learn everyday and enjoy my massage practice. It also keeps me "pono", in the correct frame of mind and body, to be able to deliver a quality service with full aloha for everyone I touch.
